Snapshot: my PLE, VLE or…?

Originally uploaded by margoc

I’m gearing up for a panel discussion as part of the NSW Learnscope regional events that start next week.

The Sydney event is going to focus on PLEs and ePortfolios: What’s the difference and why are they such a hot topic at the moment?

Alex Hayes just posted on the Open PLE which provides a great wrap up of previous conversations and discussions about PLEs and ePortfolios. It’s got my thinking oil flowing now! So, some first questions (from my twittering and in the role of an ‘appreciative inquirer’ you could say):

1. Is it possible for an e-portfolio to be something of a snapshot in time of your PLE?
2. When (and how) does a PLE become an ‘open PLE’?

This is a (literal) snapshot of my working virtual environment. Is it part of my PLE? What parts are ‘open’ or ‘closed’? Is there some form of portfolio present? What conventions are evident?

…and so the oil flows!

If nothing else and in a predicament I’m forced now to contemplate just how important it’s becoming for learners to have open access to the net…..if only to access that which others would otherwise ignore as RPL for the inner walled garden accreditation.
